POSTER: Bell's new Hybrid Tandem Rotor

| | Comments (3) | TrackBacks (0) |
hybrid tandem rotor.jpgBell Helicopter kindly emailed me this image of the poster hanging in their Quad-A exhibit booth that I filmed and described earlier this week. As discussed earlier, the Hybrid Tandem Rotor (HTR) features an all-new semi-tiltwing capable of 225kt forward speed, according to Bell. The concept is proposed as a replacement for the Sikorsky UH-60 and Boeing AH-64.

That looks like their XV-15. And is that an AH-1 fuselage?

Bill Lawrence

Actually, very little like either. I flew the XV-15 in 79-80. It was a very simple concept; mechanical flight control system, low-tech engines, all-metal everything. More of a Rube Goldberg invention that worked very well than anything. Both at that time and later, both in the fleet and at NATC, I flew the AH-lJ/T/T+/W quite a bit. Think you'll find their hybrid version is quite a bit bigger than the Cobra.

Rick Howell

Looks like they finally found a way to use those ARH Fuselages.
