Mobile Press-Register cartoon mocks “Bride of Frankentanker”

Mobile Press-Register

How do you know the KC-X tanker contract is back in competition? The Mobile Press-Register’s editorial cartoonist is back on the case! As long as the tanker contract produces satirical art of this quality, may it never stop.

Laughable, especially when you consider the A330 for KC-X are built in 4 different countries, assembled in France, then chopped up in Eastern Germany, flown to Spain for more chop shop work. Then hoppity skipped to Florida for further work, then finally to Mobile for a paint job.

Much as I thought that NG/Airbus should have been awarded the contract last year, a 777 tanker would be sweet!

Something about the way the “Bride” is drawn here strikes me as racist- can’t quite put my finger on it. However, considering it originates in Mobile, Alabama, that’s not particularly surprising.

I find the cartoon interesting in that the B777 character could just as easily be labeled A330 as it was proposed. In addition it would have to have the 4 countries mentioned in which the A330 is built. By the way the paint job in Mobile doesn’t count.
