What a beast! Is this chopper still in production?

I think the Mil Moscow Helicopter Factory (name correct?) still sells these babies at about nine million $US per. They built around 300 plus since the late seventies or early eighties. They have the same cargo capacity as the conventional Hercules fixed wing (44,000 lbs).

The Mi 26 is much larger than a Chinook. Right now around 50-60 are in service with the Russian AF, and probably aronund a 50 with UN, Indian AF, Chinese AF and varous transort companies. The good news is that the machine is going to be significantly modernized and the production will start again. Looking forward to seeing it.

Great post about this. I’m surprised to see someone so educated in the matter.
