What is he smoking? Iran is peaceful and would never launch missiles at the US. Wait, what? (Talk about irony.) And if Russia is 30 years behind with it’s vaunted S-300/400s and all the rest, the US must be positively stone-aged given it has NO continental air defense missiles whatsoever.

The two most common sources of scaremongering in the mil/ind complex are:
    1) Requests for more funding.
    2) Internal power plays.

    Take your pick.

Well, I suppose Russia has slipped relative to the offensive capabilities of the US. We pushed ahead at full speed with stealth and precision guidance, whereas they spent those years struggling to stay together and rebuilding. On the other hand, no, we aren’t in a cold war anymore.

Concerning short range missiles, Russia has not slipped as dramatically. They never could defend against those missiles effectively, and only fairly recently has anybody been able to do so. They were always vulnerable to Iran and North Korea (and Turkey and Germany and Israel, considering Cold War alignments)
