PHOTO: F-35 opens kimono

Here’s our first peak inside the F-35 weapons day in the air, courtesy of this May 2010 brief by Lockheed Martin deputy director of F-35 vehicle systems Doug Hayward. I see one AMRAAM and one 2,000lb JDAM inside each bay, a standard load-out. The aircraft appears to be the now-retired AA-1 flight test aircraft.

Not exactly stealthy in that configuration!

Love the blog, one of my favorites in my defense RSS feed. I wanted to point out that that picture has been out on the interwebs for months. The JSF site has a pretty good gallery. They have this pic, as well as a couple of others in the same series in really high-res (can count rivets). Worth checking out. They don’t update it too often, but it’s worth swinging by monthly or so. They even have older historical X-plane (Boeing and LockMart) stuff.

Here’s a link to the image:

A lady is required to have wealth and a space of her own if she is to create fiction.
