Alenia Aermacchi has issued fresh information about its revamped SF-260TP primary/basic trainer, along with some great images of the type being loaded into its C-27J Spartan tactical transport. The words “tight” and “fit” spring to mind, but it looks a great way of moving a light strike asset if you chose to arm the type for a counter-insurgency operation.

The company told me late last year that an SF-260 with new glass cockpit avionics had just returned from a demonstration in the Middle East, so I’m guessing that this involved the combination shown here. It also named Mexico as a possible future customer; the nation’s air force already has 25 earlier examples.
