US Army aviation into the 2050s

AMRDEChelos.jpgThe US Army’s Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) posted this video looking at future Army aviation concepts out to the 2050s. Frankly, a lot of these concepts look like they come out of the Halo series of video games or the movie Avatar–which is cool, but hopefully still technically feasible.

Dr Bill Lewis, director of the AMRDEC’s Aviation Development Directorate,  says he wants to encourage industry experts to view their video–conceived by their engineers and graphics artists–and to tell the Army if these ideas are feasible.

Some of the concepts include tilt-rotors that turn into jets…

tri-rotor-army-drone-contraption.jpgAnd plasma cannons? This one is probably not happening… But I applaud anytime someone tries to develop such technologies. It is every American’s god-given right to own a quality high-powered plasma weapon, it says so in the constitution (more or less)…
