Routes of The Week 9 - 15 January

Welcome to this week's Routes of The Week feature - your weekly route news update. Let's see which route activities have airlines had this week.

  • Air France from 27 Mar launches four weekly service to Tripoli onboard A320. Service increases to five weekly from 4 Jun.
  • Aer Lingus from 27 Mar launches daily Shannon - London Gatwick service onboard A320.
  • Saudi Arabian Airlines in preparation of its 2012 entry to Sky Team alliance has introduced a range of upgrades to its network. New three weekly Jeddah - Riyadh - Guangzhou service begins on 29 Mar. All Paris CDG services have been upgraded to A330-300 aircraft.
  • Qantas from 16 May launches service to Dallas. The service, world's third longest nonstop flight and the longest on a 747, will operate four times weekly. the airline also announced that from 14 May it will be cancelling service to San Francisco, also four weekly.
  • Continental from 3 May launches daily Los Angeles - Guadalajara service on board 737-800. The carrier will also launch service to Port Au Prince, Haiti from 9 Jun, again on 737-800. The service initially operates thrice weekly and increases to daily from 1 Jul.
  • Aegean from 29 Mar launches three weekly Athens - Bologna service onboard 320.
  • Luuxair from 12 May launches two weekly Bilbao service onboard EMB145.
  • Xiamen Airlines from 24 Jan launches daily Zhengzhou - Xiamen - Singapore service on board 737-700, thereby incresing overall Xiamen - SIN service to twice daily.
  • Etihad from 1 Feb increases Jeddah service to 12 times weekly. New five weekly service operates on A320.
  • Air Canada from 16 May adds the fifth daily Toronto - Los Angeles service on board A319.
  • Hawaiian Airlines on 13 Jan operated its inaugural service to Seoul, its third destination in Asia.
  • Delta Air Lines has cancelled planned service launch to Luanda from Atlanta originally due on 20 Jan.
  • Virgin Blue Airlines in March 2011 will take delivery of two used Airbus A330-200 aircraft from Emirates ( A6-EAB, EAC). Two brand new A332s will join the fleet in late 2011. The airline expects to operate these aircraft on domestic services.
