Air Astana Outlines Expansion Plans

 In an interview with ATWOnline, Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana, has outlined the Kazakh carrier’s ambitious expansion plans.

 The airline plans to add the cities of Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Colombo to its network, with a stated goal of expanding its fleet to fifty aircraft by 2020. It also wants to be flying to Milan, Munich, Prague, Paris as well as China and Japan by 2020, while the Kazakh government wants to see the airline commencing nonstop service to the US.
 The airline is also expecting to enter into talks with Aerosvit, the Ukrainian national carrier, regarding possible joint operations.
 The national carrier of Kazhakstan, presently operates a fleet of 23 aircraft consisting of Airbus A320 family, Boeing 757-200s, Boeing 767-300ERs, Embraer 190s and Fokker 50s. It is owned by Samruk-Kazyna ( 51% ), the sovereign wealth fund of Kazakhstan, and BAE Systems ( 49% ).
