Emirates also launched flights to Basra, Iraq, early this year and presently serves the route four times a week.
This is the Dubai based carrier's second attempt at launching flights to Baghdad. It was originally due to launch flights to Baghdad in July, 2010, but cancelled the plans owing to lower than expected demand. The three class Airbus A330-200, seating 237 passengers, is the smallest in Emirates' fleet.
Emirates' rival - Abu Dhabi based Etihad Airways - already serves Baghdad daily.
