The European Union today announced that it has signed a "horizontal agreement" on air services with Indonesia that will restore a sound legal basis for future aviation developments between Indonesia and the EU member states.
This new agreement, an update to the 2009's agreement, will
place several provisions in bilateral air services agreements between 19 EU Member States and Indonesia on a sound legal footing by ensuring compliance with EU legislation.
The new agreement removes the nationality restrictions that existed in the previous version. This means that all EU carriers will be legible to be designated by any of the 19 EU Member States with which Indonesia has bilateral agreements.
However they will only be able to operate flights if there are unused traffic rights in those agreements.
