QANTAS has announced that it's suspending all mainline operations till further notice due to ongoing labour dispute. All jetStar and other affiliate services including Cargo flights will continue operation. The suspension comes into force from 1700AEDT 29th October (today). All airborne flights will continue to their destinations while passengers are advised not to travel to the airports.
The airline will start to lock out employees of three unions effective 31st October from when they will not be eligible to receive their salary. The Australian government is already considering intervention in this issue to minimise the inconvenience on the travelling public.
Qantas will refund, provide accommodati or reimburse passengers depending on their stage of travel. Virgin Australia and a number of other carriers are taking action to accommodate affected passengers.
