According to a reliable source, Qatar Airways' CEO Mr. Akbar Al Baker has announced at a recent press gathering that the airline will be announcing flights to Helsinki, Finland before the year end.
While this news is nowhere near an official confirmation from the airline, Helsinki certainly is a very logical place for Qatar to launch flights to. It is not served by any of its regional competitors and would further strengthen Qatar's already strong position in the Nordic market.
While it is quite likely that the route will follow the regular launch path of using an Airbus A319LR initially, the excellent forward bookings that they received for Oslo flights might motivate them to use an Airbus A330-200 instead.
It is not yet clear when will the flights commence, but an indication on it is likely to come soon. Where next, Qatar ?
