TAM Applies for Daily Rio - London flights

TAM Linhas Aéreas has applied to the ANAC ( Brazilian equivalent of CAA ) to increase its Rio De Janeiro - London flights to Daily. The airline presently operates thrice weekly services to London Heathrow on board Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

The decision to increase flights, apparently, comes as a form of head-to-head competition with oneworld carrier British Airways, who presently operates three weekly Rio - LHR flights on board Boeing 777 aircraft. Back in March, TAM requested permission for three additional weekly GIG-LHR flights ( which were approved ) following which, BA immediately increased its own GIG-LHR flights from three to six.

TAM presently approved GIG-LHR flights ( effective August 2011 )

JJ8088 GIG 0035 LHR 1605 123-567  332
JJ8089 LHR 2115 GIG 0515+1 123-567  332

TAM newly applied seventh weekly flight

JJ8106 GIG 0035 LHR 1605 ---4---  332
JJ8107 LHR 2115 GIG 0515+1 ---4---  332

British Airways present GIG-LHR schedule

BA249 LHR 1315 GIG 2055 1--4-6- 777
BA248 GIG 2245 LHR 1400+1 1--4-6- 777

BMI British Midland International airline presently codeshares with TAM on its GIG-LHR flights.

Route Analysis : Dubai - Kuwait

The route between Dubai and Kuwait City, linking the two capitals of the Dubai Emirate and Kuwait, is one of the busiest trunk routes in the Arabian Gulf. The route, one of the launch routes of the Emirates Airline in 1985, has now grown into one of the largest routes operating out of Dubai.

Let's have a look at the current status of this route. All the data are for the week of 21-28 April 2011.

The route is now being served 107 times a week ( 105 KWI-DXB ) by six airlines with local traffic rights.

Emirates Airline, UAE - 28 weekly flights . EQV.
flydubai, UAE - 28 weekly flights. 73H.
Jazeera Airlines, Kuwait - 23 weekly flights. 320.
Kuwait Airways, Kuwait - 16 weekly flights. EQV.
Mihin Lanka, Sri Lanka - 5 weekly flights. 32S.
SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lanka - 7 weekly flights. 332.

Interestingly, three of the six airlines operating on the route are LCCs - namely, flydubai, Jazeera and Mihin Lanka. The route recently had a reduction of capacity when the Kuwaiti luxury carrier Wataniya Airways, that had been operating two daily flights, went out of business.
The largest aircraft presently operating on the route is the Boeing 777-300ER of Emirates while the smallest is Jazeera's A320 with 162 seats ( whereas Mihin Lanka's A320 has 180 seats ). Emirates is the largest carrier on route with 8564 weekly one-way seats on offer.
How will this route's future turn out ? That sure would be something interesting to watch.

Etihad Airways has secured local traffic rights on its flights between Nagoya and Beijing. This will allow the airline to carry local passengers between Nagoya and Beijing.
The airline presently operates five weekly services on the Abu Dhabi - Nagoya - Beijing route. The Abu Dhabi - Beijing sector will go up to daily from June.
The only airline to operate on the route till 1 April was Air China on board Boeing 737 aircraft offering 1139 weekly one way seats.
Etihad now offers 1155 weekly seats on the route on board its Airbus A330 aircraft.

LAN Airlines of Chile, effective 15 July 2011 will be suspending its services to Paris Charles De Gaulle. The airline presently operates to Paris thrice a week via Madrid, from Santiago, on board Airbus A340-300. It is believed that the reason for the cancellation is the lack of aircraft availability due to upcoming C checks of its A340 fleet.
LAN also operates six times a week to Frankfurt via Madrid, which will continue unaffected.
