Route Cancellations: September 2011 Archives

American Airlines from 6th November is cancelling service on the Chicago - Brussels route. The availability is now zeroed out from this day.
This route has been believed to be one of American's strongest trans-Atlantic routes and was expected to get a challenge from United's new service on the same route - however no industry analyst expected it to be this soon.
American presently flies the route daily, with a Boeing 767-300ER and the flight is code-shared with Etihad Airways, British Airways and Iberia. United presently flies the route with a Boeing 767-300ER too, six times a week, and is code-shared with Continental and SN Brussels Airlines.
However, the key to the route's success has been United's code-share agreement with fellow Star Alliance member SN Brussels Airlines on this Star hub - Star hub route. The extensive African network of SN Brussels must be a key driver of connecting traffic for United. At the time of SN Brussels' Star Alliance entry, American - which at the time had been a code-share partner of SN - did not seem too happy and wanted to extend the code-share agreement till the last possible day.
