Korean Air A380.jpg Our iFlight interactive magazines were a centrepiece of our Paris Air Show coverage. Anchored by Mary Kirby, AKA Runway Girl, each told the big stories in punchy video presentations.

In Day 1's issue, FlightBlogger gave a guide to the Boeing 747-8i and Craig Hoyle briefed on the Eurofighter Typhoon's role in the Libyan conflict.

The Day 2 issue led on the Dassault Rafale's display and had Dominic Perry's take on the Eurocopter X3, plus a Solar Impulse piece from Kerry Reals, who authors our blog The Green Wing.

And Day 3 brought a Bombardier CRJ1000 cutaway and Ghim-Lay Yeo's tour of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet cabin, plus a Russian aircraft focus.

Also on offer across the issues were news round-ups, galleries, a NATO AGS cutaway and a spotter's quiz.

We also toured inside the Korean AIr A380, the aircraft that saved the day when it stepped in to perform aerial displays in place of the Airbus A380 flight test aircraft, MSN 004 which suffered a damaged wingtip following an incident in which it "touched a structure" during ground manoeuvres at the Le Bourget Airport.

You can still check out all the coverage from last week's Paris Air Show on our dedicated page including images, video, twitter, news and blogs.

BoeingAirplanes has been crowned the Paris Power Tweeter for this year's Paris Air Show.

The award recognises the most active, influential and engaged social media proponent from the show's exhibitors.

Paris power 1.jpg

BoeingAirplanes posted a total of 94 tweets during the first four days of the show (19-22 June) and received an impressive 469 retweets of their Paris announcements.

It helped swell their followers by over 650 up to a total of 28,745.

twittercounter.chart.png

The Award was calculated by measuring the number of tweets from each twitter account using the Paris Air Show hashtag #pas11, the number of retweets by the respective followers, and the growth in those following the account.

Twitter powerhouse and Flightglobal journalist Jon Ostrower said of Boeing's achievement: "The award is recognition for Boeing's commitment to bringing together those who bring aerospace to life and those who follow with passion and enthusiasm around the world."

Notable mentions in the Power Tweeter award go to Airbus - generated the highest percentage of retweets per tweet, GEAviation - who clocked up an impressive 177 #pas11 tweets, and CFM_Engines, who pulled in a massive 4,284 new followers mainly through their innovative sponsorship of the #pas11 hashtag.

This year's Paris Air Show has seen an unprecedented amount of social media activity, with many exhibitors embracing their customers through the new medium.

Flightglobal has been monitoring the use of the #pas11 tag in the run up to the show and the statistics show over 15,000 tweets have covered the show since 6 June 2011.

Top tweeters over all (including the media and general public) are: OhMyJet (303 tweets), Flightglobal (223 tweets), jetcitystar (223 tweets), DailyAviation (190 tweets), and winglets747 (189 tweets)

Power Tweeters (among exhibitors): GEAviation, BoeingAirplanes, CFM_Engines and snecma.
The top Paris tweeters using #pas11 tag after day 1 looks like this:

Unsurprisingly the field is dominated by the media. In terms of the Paris Power Tweeter Awards - which is looking for the most active tweeter for the exhibitors and manufacturers present at the show - i won't spoil the surprise but @raytheoncompany, @GEaviation @Boeingairplanes, @Bombardier_Aero, @prattandwhitney and @Airbus are among the active twitterers on day 1.

See a Flight Blog post commemorating the 50th anniversary of first human spaceflight as Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin orbited Earth in 108-minute flight on 12 April 1961.

See how Flight recorded the event and what our report Maurice Smith thought about him when they met. The British Council (@BritishCouncil) tweeted updates sent, in real time, 50 years after they were first recorded but at the time few details were divulged.

Learmount visited Brooklands Museum where he flew Concorde's simulator next to his copilot Mike Bannister, a former British Airway chief Concorde pilot.

For a price, members of the public can have the same experience. Learmount said: "Mike did all the checklist stuff, set up the speed bugs, told me about attitudes for the key moments, and off we went.

Still on the subject of supersonic aircraft, former Concorde pilot Chris Orlebar, author of the definitive book about that iconic Franco-British aeroplane "The Concorde Story", was also at Brooklands to launch the book's seventh edition which contains Orlebar's speculation about a successor.

Learmount says that Orlebar doesn't pretend to know for sure, "but years spent assembling information about this superspeed phenomenon may have provided him with as good a perspective as anybody alive can have of what's likely to come next."

As reported on the Asian Skies blog, ANA has launched a post-earthquake & tsunami special livery. The livery carries the phrase "Forward together as one Japan". There is now a red dot representing the sun; Japan is referred to as the land of the rising sun, and it is also featured on the wing.

Piaggio cutaway.gif

FlightBlogger Jon Ostrower was in Everett, Seattle, to cover the rollout of the Boeing 747-8I and his flurry of activity can be seen on our dedicated page which gives you background information on the aircraft programme, the story so far, 210 images to pore over, video, Twitter and news as it happened.

Elbit performed joint sorties with the Hermes-family of UAVs highlighting the cost benefits of using a common GCS capable of simultaneously controlling two parallel missions, each managed by a single operator. See a video of the software in action.

Take a look at the 18 February issue 100 years ago in the Flightglobal archive to see what was important in the world of aviation back then.

The front page has two images taken at Brooklands in Surrey; which "give some idea of the gatherings which assemble day by day around the actual flving village. In the upper photograph Tom Sopwith is flying his Howard Wright biplane... In the bottom picture Mr. Low, one of the expert pilots of the Bristol Co., is making one of his fine flights round the aerodrome."

See our extensive range of cutaways on AirSpace including this Piaggio Avanti. Buy reprints, posters and framed photos of this and many more on the Flightglobal Image Store. Go to www.flightglobalimagestore.com.

red bull display team.gifRunwayGirl wants YOUR help to find the aviation communIty's favourite airline viral video for 2010. Could it be Cebu Pacific's flight attendants dancing, Air New Zealand's furry lothario Rico and his humourous language difficulties, or perhaps it's the making of the Ryanair Cabin Crew Charity Calendar video?

If you didn't manage to get to Aero India, not to worry, you'll feel as though you were there when you see how Flightglobal covered the show.

See also our three digital Flight Daily News magazines, and in day one we explore the MMRCA battle, weighing up India's fighter jet options. And you can rely on us to showcase video, images, news and the twitter conversation.

Globemaster III sunset.gifSafety & Operations Editor David Learmount hosted a live web chat to discuss safety issues arising from his Global Airline Safety and Accident Review 2010 with members of the aviation community.

Read the transcript of questions and answers and get involved by using the Twitter hashtag #safety2010 to continue the dialogue.

Learmount answered a question from user Jeff S about streaming black box data in realtime from an aircraft while it is flying. He wondered whether it would ever happen or could it be "Star Trek fantasy".

Read the live updates as they happened during Airbus' annual press conference during which Sir Richard Branson announced an order of 30 A320neos for Virgin America, the first airline to order the re-engined aircraft complete with sharklet wingtips.

See a great image of a Globemaster III at sunset which shows the transport aircraft silhouetted in a glorious light taken by AirSpace user flyvertosset.

And if you need ideas for romantic gestures as Valentines Day edges ever nearer, see a video on Runway Girl's blog showing a lovestruck passenger proposing to his flight attendant girlfriend.

ilyushin-96.gif

The Chengdu J-20, China's fifth-generation fighter flew for the first time in public, as confirmed by numerous online reports, photos and video of the large, delta-winged aircraft getting airborne. Chinese President Hu Jintao also has confirmed the milestone.

Last week images of its first flight and video footage of it taxiing emerged but were quickly dismissed as a hoax, even by industry experts.

Flightglobal's own Greg Waldron suggested that a true Chinese combat aircraft is probably well over a decade away from readiness. He was sceptical as to why the Chinese military chose to introduce the world to its J-20 with images that emerged through plane spotters' postings on the Internet.

The Flight Blog houses all the J-20 content including blog posts of a speculative nature and the conversation on Twitter .

There's a great post on RunwayGirl about a campaign by social networking site Facebook aimed at convincing United Airlines to go fleet-wide with in-flight WiFi.

"United is the only major airline without WiFi. United for WiFi is a grassroots effort aimed at bringing inflight internet to United Airlines. We run the gamut from business professionals to casual flyers and we need our internet 10,000 feet up!"

See a great pic of an Ilyushin IL-96 by AirSpace user TripleDelta "after a spirited departure from Salzburg, Austria".

It's also worth mentioning that time is fast running out to enter/nominate your own or your favourite websites in the Webbies - Flightglobal's Aviation Web Awards. These awards celebrate and acknowledge the best and brightest aviation and aerospace websites and digital activities of the last 12 months.

Now in its third year with new and improved categories, Flightglobal welcomes entries and nominations from the entire online aviation and aerospace community, from established industry leaders to striving newcomers. Closing date is 15 January. Do it now.
