Not something you see every day of the week...

Story and another pic follows...

So, the story is: this August is the 70th anniversary of 19 Sqn Royal Air Force being equipped with the Spitfire at Duxford. After what appears to have been the usual epic negotiations with the upper echelons, approval was gained to paint Hawk XX184 in Battle of Britain vintage colours.

For appropriate charities, there are all sorts of activities going on around the anniversary this year - including a calendar and limited edition print that you can buy. The aircraft is to be flown at assorted locations with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Red Arrows, and so on. More details here.

Aesthetically the Hawk has never quite done it for me - but I've got a whole new perspective on it now. Looks like a proper fighter even on the ground say I. Should be terrific in the air.

One minor correction: This August marks the 60th anniversary of No. XIX Squadron's first Spitfire.

Thanks. In fact it's the 70th anniversary! Must be the holiday weekend kicking in early for us all. I've changed it anyway.

We're all getting older!
