Yes, both of you! Nice picture of an Air China A340 in the midst of a 8C-check at Ameco Beijing. The work included a major structural mod that involves removing the fin as you can see. When it all gets put back together it looks like the bottom picture. Ameco Beijing is an Air China - Lufthansa joint venture and a truly noteworthy success story I'd suggest. They say they did five of these checks last year.

The A340 is my absolute favourite jetliner. Give me 4 over two anyday. The contrast between the smooth and quiet A340 versus the B777 is marked. I am unable to sleep on a long-haul B777 as subconciously I am aware that if one engine fails - there is only one left.... yes I know that this problem also exists on a A330. If Airlines really considered their customers and not their accountants - there would be more A340's in the air.
