CAA acts on firefighting red tape

As pointed out in the previous post, there are some things in aviation that shouldn't be left to chance, and another one is the possibility of firefighters standing outside a burning aircraft with people inside but not wanting to actually enter it without the owner's permission. That obviously would not be good, and you'll be pleased to learn that the UK CAA has cracked down on this particular safety hazard and sealed the legal loophole that might have let this happen.

Now, this is 2009, and the CAA is the kind of very model of a modern aviation regulator that does not simply rush into making controversial rules. No, consultation is the order of the day. So it has consulted industry and, fortunately enough you might think, nobody had a convincing argument for preventing firefighters entering burning aircraft. And so the Air Navigation Order has been duly amended. Phew.
