For all you Martin 4-0-4 fans out there - some great photos

Martin 404s in Life magazine.jpgCome on, there must be one! (I mean, it turned out there were three A340 fans!). A memory from Atlanta 1956 of a type of which precisely 103 were built and which I think is primarily famous for having arguably the most idiosyncratic designation in airliner history. (And which, according to Wikipedia, last flew in 2008 - is that true?)

But widening the scope by a couple of orders of magnitude, fans of Connies, DC-4s et al will also love this gorgeous photo-fest from Life magazine via Sunshine Skies.

I'm a Martin 404 fan. It's my favorite airplane. I've flown on several and the most exciting was a flight from Atlanta to Roanoke, Va at night. I sat next to the port engine and really enjoyed watching the long flame of fire coming out the exhaust.

Bob that's great - can you tell us more about your 4-0-4 flights? What were you doing at the time? Which airlines? No pictures tucked away I suppose?
