Astounding video of a Bonanza's near-death terrain encounter

In the UK the normal way to kill yourself in a light aircraft is to fly to the point where the weather, terrain and the pilot's skill all come up to meet each other. Sometimes it's through force of circumstances, sometimes it's  inexperience and sometimes stupidity. In the video below, from the US, the consequence is captured live on video. By pure good fortune the pilot and his passengers are alive to tell the tale - although not necessarily talking to each other anymore.

Hard to know where to begin in chronicling the errors. Apparently the handheld GPS you can see actually has a terrain-warning alarm which was turned down. Although frankly that's only the final item in the list of horrors that led up to this.

For idiots like this is why FAA should raise the standards for check rides..( specially for begainers like this).
It is NOT funny and something that you dont really want to watch.
