Another one for Pratt & Whitney fans

First frost of the year in London this morning and northern hemisphere aviation is entering the winter. There will doubtless be much airport angst ahead, especially in the US mid-west and northeast – so a quick reminder of just how remarkable it is that the video below is pretty unremarkable. Didn’t even take a century to make this sort of thing routine.

Interesting video. I guess digital video cameras are not portable electronic devices for the purposes of take off and landing!

Good comment by you on this being unremarkable these days. It is a great pity that pilots are getting beaten up so badly in the press because of one or two recent incidents. The vast majority of flights are conducted like this, with great precision, attention and bags of prise and professionalism. And oh yes, with safety at the front of everyone’s minds….

YAWN!! I was waiting through this video to see what the big deal was… like maybe the plane was going to skid sideways or something.

Try a video of landing at Scheremtyevo airport in Moscow in a Tupelov when it’s -10 and sleeting and you have huge layers of ice buildup on the wings and the aircraft is fighting a 20 knot cross wind! That was a fun landing! We skidded on the nose wheel and the left wheel first (the other up in the air).. and then the other and then the other and then the other….
