McDonnell Douglas - MD-82

The MD-82 is a heavier weight variant of the MD-80. It is some 1813 kg’s heavier empty than the -81 and has more powerful engines. In comparison with the MD-81, the -82 has a 1774 kg's higher maximum payload which it can carry 741 km further. The MD-82 also served as the platform the MD-88. Five hundred and seventy eight -82s were produced of which thirty five were assembled in the Peoples Republic of China by Shanghai Aviation The first delivery was to Republic Airlines on 05/08/1981 and the final -82 was delivered to U Land of Taiwan on 17/11/1997. The most significant operator however was American Airlines who received two hundred and sixty two aircraft, between 04/05/1983 and 05/09/1991 and remain the largest operator of the MD-82 in August 2005, when the world active fleet of MD-82s totalled four hundred and ninety
