McDonnell Douglas - DC-8 Series 63CF
The DC-8 -63 was the final version of new build DC-8s and it combined the long fuselage of the -61 and the drag reducing modifications of the -62 with JT3D-7 engines. The -63s were offered as passenger -63s, freighter -63Fs or – 63CF convertibles .The F and CF versions featuring a forward 2.16 X 1.82 m cargo door.
In all one hundred and seven -63s were built comprising thirty three -63s, twenty one 63Fs and fifty three -63CFs. In July 2005 twenty six -63s were active, all as cargo aircraft. Fifty of the original Series 63 were converted to -73s of which thirty nine were in service.
The first Series 63 was delivered to KLM on 15/07/67 and the last, (a -63), to SAS on 13/05/1972. The delivery of the last series 63 aircraft marked the end of production of the DC-8, a total of 556 aircraft.
In 1967 the Douglas company was forced to merge with McDonnell becoming the McDonnell Douglas Company.
