The MD-88 is an updated MD-82, the most significant modifications being to the flight deck with the legacy MD-82 instruments being replaced by LCD display units. Eight MD-88s were built as MD-82s and then modified to MD-88 standard under a manufactures service bulletin. Other changes included a redesigned passenger interior, carbon brakes and the increased use of composites. One hundred and fifty MD-88s were built as MD-88s and the first was delivered to Delta on 19/12/1987 who received one hundred and eleven aircraft as MD-88s plus the eight converted from -82s. The final delivery was to the Turkish airline Onur Air on 25/6/1997, the last of five MD-88s for that carrier.
