The 787-9 is a medium-sized, twin-engine aircraft, twin-aisle aircraft with as much as 50 percent of the primary structure - including the fuselage and wing made of composite materials. The 787-9 is a stretched-body deriative of the 787-8. Originally scheduled to enter into service in 2010, this may be put back by the six month delay in the entire 787 programme, announced in October 2007. The launch customer for the 787-9 was lessor International Lease Finance Corp. ( ILFC) which placed a firm order for 20 787s on 13 October 2005. The order was to include an unspecified number of both 787-8s and 787-9s. The first firm 787-9 order from an airline was for 30 aircraft plus options, placed by Qantas.
