Its operations are genuinely pan-European with manufacturing and design taking place in Germany, France and Spain - these sites were previously owned and operated by partners DaimlerChrysler Aerospace, Aerospatiale Matra and CASA, all of whom are partners in the new company. EADS is registered as a Dutch company for tax purposes, and the joint Chairmen are based in Munich and Paris.
EADS is active in all the major aerospace sectors and owns 80% of Airbus Industrie, as well as being a senior partner in the Eurofighter and Arianespace consortia. An addititional operation, the yet-to-be-named ' JV Co'. has been formed with Alenia of Italy to cover new and exisiting joint ventures including both companies' military aircraft activities.
EADS has five divisions: Aeronautics, Airbus, Military Transport Aircraft, Space, and Defence and Civil Systems.
The company came into being on 10 July 2000, emerging from the link-up of the German DaimlerChrysler Aerospace AG, the French Aerospatiale Matra and CASA of Spain.
