BAE SYSTEMS Regional Aircraft is responsible for Customer Support, Engineering and Asset Management activities covering a world-wide base of 160 customers operating over 1,100 aircraft in addition to managing a trading and leasing portfolio of some 350 aircraft. The company is strongly focussed on supporting its existing customers operating BAe 146/Avro RJ regional jetliners, ATP turboprop airliners and freighters and the Jetstream 31/32 and 41 family, as well as the BAe 748. It retains a complete large aircraft design engineering capability for the continued airworthiness governance across its aircraft types and also carries out engineering work on behalf of other OEMs. It has customer training facilities with four simulators and a suite of state of the art classrooms. Its spares logistics operations at Weybridge and Herndon, Virginia supply the world fleet, but in addition perform spares operations on behalf of Raytheon and Embraer (Weybridge) and ATR and AvCraft (Herndon).
Its Asset Management activities make it the world's largest regional aircraft lessor and its Trading and Services arm is offering this expertise to fulfil a growing market requirement for third party lease management and advisory services, aircraft trading and brokerage.
The new Regional Aircraft Group was created as a service, support and asset management business in the wake of the decision to cease regional jet manufacturing activity by the company with the cancellation of the Avro RJX programme in November 2001. A transition phase was completed successfully during 2002.
