IAE International Aero Engines

In 2008, International Aero Engines (IAE) produced 360 V2500 engines and secured orders for more than 600. For 2009, the company is only slightly reducing V2500 production and it remains confident of securing several new orders, despite the economic downturn. The company has experienced a sustained period of growth over the last five years, doubling production output. Through the end of 2008, IAE had delivered 3,800 V2500 engines and now boasts a customer base of 170 operators and lessors worldwide.

IAE’s philosophy of continuous improvement has resulted in the successful entry into service of the ''V2500 SelectOne'' build standard. Meeting every major milestone throughout its development programme, the new engine was delivered exactly on time to launch customer, IndiGo, in September 2008. IAE, in conjunction with its shareholders, is continually seeking additional improvements that will further enhance the advantages offered by the V2500.

Orders for the''V2500 SelectOne'' standard engine already exceed 2,000, cementing its popularity in the marketplace thanks to its demonstrated technology leadership. SelectOne is also available for retrofitting, with the first modified aircraft re-entering service with US Airways in February 2009

SelectOne has improved the V2500's fuel burn advantage by a further one per cent, and extended time on wing by 20 per cent. 'V2500 SelectOne' also makes the engine the greenest in its class, as measured by its emissions and noise profiles. Since the emission of CO2 gas is directly related to fuel burn there is a direct correspondence between the reduction in fuel burn and lower in CO2 gas emissions. The V2500 also exhibits the lowest total emissions profile when considering the collective emission constituents. And with the introduction of the V2500 SelectOne configuration, the engine will also meet CAEP 6 standards on NOx emissions.

IAE’s comprehensive aftermarket services program promises to maintain covered engines to the highest available standards. Any V2500s covered by such an agreement will be overhauled to the latest configuration throughout their lifetime. Under this type of arrangement, airlines can expect greater asset value with the latest V2500 technology upgrades as well as greater efficiency through increased time on wing and reduced fuel burn. The success of this philosophy is proven, with more than 50 percent of the V2500s in service or on order covered by IAE aftermarket agreements.

During 2008, IAE achieved a market share in excess of 50 per cent, including significant orders from Hungary’s Wizz Air, Shenzhen Airlines in China and leasing company, AWAS. It also signed its single largest aftermarket agreement with US Airways. The agreement covers imore than 300 engines in service or on order for a total of 24 years.

IAE shareholders are Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines. Pratt & Whitney produces the combustor and high-pressure turbine, Rolls-Royce the high-pressure compressor, JAEC the fan and low-pressure compressor and MTU the low-pressure turbine. Final assembly is divided between the two largest shareholders, Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney.
