Business management books are full of analogies about climbing mountains, but Calin Rovinescu does this in practice: he notes that scaling peaks is just one of the ways that he gets energised to tackle boardroom challenges.
“Personally, I do a lot of sports – I do enjoy that as a way to kind of keep my adrenaline going at times when I need adrenaline other than that [which] comes from within Air Canada,” says Rovinescu.
Some of the chief executive’s athletic feats include hiking mountains in South America, Asia and Washington State. Rovinescu, who does classic Canadian sports like skiing and snowshoeing, mentions that he recently cycled from Montreal to Quebec City – about 250km – for The Ride to Conquer Cancer.
In addition to achieving personal goals, Rovinescu contributes time to charitable organisations like hospitals, cancer societies and the Olympic Games.
