They manufacture specialist alloys in the form of castings, HIP-consolidated parts, powders, continuously cast welding rods, cored wires, HVOF coatings and weld hardfacings, primarily for the aerospace, marine and oil &amp; gas industries.
They are currently seeking a Materials Scientist / Metallurgist to join their technical team based at Swindon in the UK for a role that provides technical support to their thermal spray and weld overlay coating services, and across the company's broad spectrum of materials related business activities.
Role Overview:
The ideal candidate will hold a degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline together with experience of welding or thermal spraying, or alternatively have a metallurgy background with experience of the aerospace industry. 
Applicants must have the ability to undertake metallographic analysis, interpret mechanical and chemical analysis data and perform investigations is desirable, as is knowledge of wear and corrosion behaviour, heat treatment procedures and welding procedure qualification.
They must have the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients about technical matters and to work as part of a team, this role also requires a high level of attention to detail and excellent report-writing and analytical skills, proficiency in MS-Word and Excel is also essential. 
Responsibilities:
" Dealing with customer complaints that are of a technical nature. This may include, for example, metallographic analysis of samples submitted by customers, and failure analysis in a general sense. It includes writing reports to describe the findings and actions taken, identifying root causes, and where applicable running projects (with the support of the Quality Manager) to address root causes.
" Managing the Technical Files and the legal requirements relating to Dental Alloys (Ni and Co based).
" Assisting with projects for ongoing improvements in production techniques, as part of the continuous improvement programme.
" Final release of HVOF coatings to Aerospace Standards (with associated metallography, coating evaluation, and written reports).
" Back-up for the Works Analyst when he is absent (chemical analysis of all weld consumables produced) - training will be provided.
" Assessing the technical requirements related to potential new work and advising the Sales Team regarding feasibility. Planning and conducting any development work required before the work can be accepted.
" Planning, monitoring and documenting Weld Procedure Qualifications for new weld overlay contracts to a variety of international and customer specifications (including designing suitable post-weld heat treatments).
" The compilation/revision of Work Instructions to meet the requirements of new customers (or the new requirements of existing customers).
" Assisting the Quality Manager with ongoing improvement of existing working practices and /or production/testing equipment used.
" Assisting the Quality Manager with closing out of NCRs from internal or external audits.
" Preparing for NADCAP approval in the HVOF area (including upgrade of Metallurgical Laboratory and associated CapEx requests).
