Chief Design Engineer - Stress - Derby

Our client specialises in the design and production of high quality components and systems for applications in the civil and defence Aviation / Aerospace markets. With over 50,000 staff and customers in 150 countries they are suppliers to a large majority of the world's aircraft manufacturers, and support equipment in the field with airlines and air forces worldwide.
Our client is globally recognised for their international leadership in aircraft fuel systems including fluid power, electrical distribution and control, and sensor components and systems, and they have unique expertise in bespoke engineering on many of their products including ducting, actuation and control systems in aero engines.

Our client has an opening for a Chief Design Engineer, based in their Derby location. The primary functions of the role are as follows;

"Define and Manage work packages, including 3D models and detail drawings utilising Unigraphics and CATIA V5.
"Manage team of Design Engineers and data administrators in day to day activities
"Provide first line technical interface with the Customer
"Report on technical progress and issues/issue resolution to the management team
"Assist the Programme Manager in achievement of milestones to deliver the programme in a timely and cost effective manner
"Ensure all Engineering content is properly administered
"Ensure all Engineering Data is appropriately maintained under configuration control

The essential functions of the role are;

Provide team members with appropriate work packages to enable delivery of the programme to time and cost
Check and approve new assembly, subassembly, and detail drawings and review/check existing drawings and other documents according to our client's Product Engineering Standards and Customer integration standards.
Ensure clarity and accuracy of models, drawings and Bills of Materials.
Coordinate with the Programme Manager, and Customers to determine design requirements for future and existing parts.
Provide technical support internally and externally as needed.
Provide technical data as required to ensure PROLaunch/NPI milestones are met
Prepare/review project requests to ensure all information is clear and all requirements are understood.
Provide all technical support for Internal and External Design Reviews and ensure data for such reviews is delivered in a timely manner

The appropriate individual for this position must be able to demonstrate, by actual example, an ability to drive a team of engineering personnel to deliver programme milestones. The successful candidate will have experience of the Aerospace industry and will have a detailed working background in a customer-facing environment. The ability to solve problems and re-align activities to deliver the programme requirements is essential and a proven track record of successful programme/project delivery will be required. As the technical focus on the programme, the successful candidate will also be required to demonstrate a sound technical knowledge and understanding of fluid systems and systems installations. This knowledge will be essential for day-to-day customer interface and rapid resolution of technical issues.

Suitable candidates will come from an aerospace background and possess the following;

"Degree in Engineering, Technology, Mechanical Design or equivalent.
"Unigraphics modelling & drafting, GD&T, PDM systems experience
"Experience in System Installations Design
"Mechanical component and installation design and detailing experience or equivalent.
"Demonstrable team management experience
