As the successful candidate you will join the Installation Environment department, which is fully transnational across UK, France

ensuring compliance with the applicable requirements for Mechanical and Climatic Environments.
As the successful candidate you will need to demonstrate significant relevant experience in the majority of these areas; lightning

Tasks
You will be working as part of an integrated team with other disciplines (primarily structures and systems specialists), project
management and external partners and suppliers. There is also a strong transnational element to the role, requiring regular
contact with other Airbus entities.
You will be required to technically supervise a team of typically 4-6 electromagnetic hazards engineers, including subcontract
work package staff, working on one single project.
As a recognised specialist, you will be required to technically advise, supervise and contribute to the development of less
experienced staff, both in the UK and all other Airbus entities.
Your principal activities will include the following:
- Lead test and assessment tasks to ensure designs on development programmes are compliant with the applicable
electromagnetic and lightning protection requirements;
- Provide in-house lightning consultancy service for structures and systems specialists;
- Contribute technically in the research and development of novel lightning proof composite joint technologies;
- Provide relevant inputs, in conjunction with the appropriate specialists and vendors, to systems and equipment specifications;
- Review supplier documentation and provide appropriate technical inputs;
- Review airframe structural designs from the lightning direct effects viewpoint;
- Contribute to lightning and electromagnetic certification activities to ensure airworthiness and safety requirements are met;
- Create and maintain database for above activities and provide regular status reports;
- Create and maintain project plans.
Skills
You will have a degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronics, Physics or Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and
have significant experience in electromagnetic hazards, gained preferably within an aerospace or defence environment.
You should be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of Electromagnetic theory and application to the protection of
aircraft structures and systems, as well as knowledge of electrical bonding, grounding, electrostatic discharge design and
aerospace structural design principles particularly related to composite materials.
Ideally you will also possess;
- an ability to produce detailed Technical Engineering reports;
- good communication skills and a pro-active approach to problem solving;
- an ability to work as part of an Integrated Product Team;
- people & project management skills through experience of working in international teams and/or projects;
- an aptitude for languages; English to a high standard plus French, German and/or Spanish.
