Salary circa £35,000

Extremely well respected in the Defence industry our client is a world-leading missile and missile systems manufacturer with operations in France, Germany, Italy and Britain, over 10,000 employees and an annual turnover of over €3 bn.
Formed following a merger of the 3 main missile producers in Europe our client has benefited the combined experience gained from fifty years of technological and operational success.
Working with nearly 100 armed forces worldwide our client is the only Group capable of designing and producing missiles and missile systems to meet the whole range of current and future operational requirements for the three armed forces (army, navy, air force). Overall, the Group offers a range of 45 products in service and another 15 in development.
Positioned at the heart of the European defence sector as well as establishing cooperative transatlantic links with the principal groups in the US defence industry our client has demonstrated its ability to bring together the best skills across the whole of Europe, and has succeeded in becoming the prime contractor for a series of strategic multi-national programmes.

Due to increased workload they now require an Electronic Missile Architect to be based in Stevenage.

ROLE PURPOSE:Definition, development & delivery of the electrical architecture of a complete missile system or electronic sub-system

REPORTS TO: Chief Design Engineer (CDE)

ACCOUNTABILITIES
"Responsible for defining the optimum electrical architecture for all variants of the munition ensuring the electrical architecture and interfaces meet requirements.
"Responsible for ensuring that the flow down of the electrical architecture is consistent between each missile sub-system, between the sub-system and the overall missile and flowed down to sub-system/equipment design authorities both internal & external.
"Responsible for establishing the Technical Requirement and Interface Defining Specifications for a sub-system.
"Responsible for producing Statements of Work and plans for activities within their sphere of responsibility.
"Responsible for controlling assigned budgets, monitoring the UPC, program management and risk management of a sub-system.
"Technically manage internal & external suppliers for delivery of sub-system work packages to time, performance and quality requirements.
"Manage customer expectations throughout the development process.
"Responsible for direct technical supervision of engineers within their team and that the technical expertise of the engineers is sufficient to deliver the tasks defined.
"Responsible for controlling assigned budgets, managing the workload, planning for and identifying future resource needs.


PROBLEM SOLVING CHALLENGES
"Participate in and influence the decision making process at all levels within the project including the Chief Engineer, Chief System Engineer as well as across the supplier base to ensure that the best cost/performance trade offs are made.
"Analyse the cost/benefit analysis for all major decisions taken and ensure the correct technical decision is made.
"To act as the focus for all missile integration electrical architecture development NCR investigations.
"Provide the right technical support to Operations and external sub-contractors.

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
"Missile electrical architecture definition agreed, understood and successfully flowed out at missile and sub-system level.
"Missile and sub-system Technical and Interface documentation defined.
"Agreement reached with the missile and sub-system DA's on electrical architecture and interfaces.
"Missile electrical architecture for all missile variants defined in a timely manner in accordance with project technical requirements and timescales.
"Successful achievement of project and team milestones.
"Project task packages are managed to time, cost, quality, and performance constraints.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
"Educated to degree level or an equivalent qualification having obtained substantial experience of electrical and electronic engineering.
"Detailed knowledge & experience of missile design and a good understanding of systems and safety design.
"Ability to technically manage internal & sub-contract activities.
"Ability to influence senior managers and other stakeholders across the company.
"Ability to manage and provide leadership to the team.
"Determination & desire to succeed.
"Strong interpersonal and highly developed communication skills.
"Willingness to travel within UK and Europe.
"Ability to work in an international environment, understanding the cultural and political issues.


ECONOMICS
Responsible typically for an internal budget of 2M€ to 3M€ a year and external budgets of 0.5M€ to 1M€ a year.
Will typically have 2 to 3 direct reports.
