Electronics Test Technician - Hampshire UK

Headquartered in the United Kingdom, our client is an international group employing over 8,000 people with sales of over £600 million, specialising in aerospace equipment, high performance sensors, defence training and combat systems.
Located in Hampshire on the south coast of England they design and manufacture:
" Flight deck avionics: - Sensors and cockpit display systems for most of the world´s leading aircraft manufacturers of civil and military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.
" Data acquisition systems: - Flight data recorders, health and usage monitoring systems and engine monitoring units for civil and military aircraft, fixed or rotary wing.
" Instruments and life support: - Electro-mechanical instruments and military aircrew oxygen systems - design, manufacture and support benefiting from over 40 years´ experience.

Due to the growth of their business they currently require a Test Technician for their office in Hampshire.


JOB DESCRIPTION


Job title: TEST TECHNICIAN


Responsible to: NOMINATED MANAGER

Responsible for: NONE


Overall Purpose/Objectives of Role

To determine the serviceability of product by following written test procedures with the use of common range electronics test & measurement equipment.


Key duties:

1. To carry out product test procedures at general assembly, sub-assembly levels, and fault-find down to component level.

2. To operate common range electronics test & measurement equipment

3. To operate specific product-related environmental test and calibration equipment

4. To compile test reports and other relevant documentation

5. To carry out production/repair work as required.


ESSENTIAL - Job Related Experience:

" Able to follow written test procedures to determine the serviceability of product at general assembly and sub-assembly levels and fault find down to component level.
" Sound knowledge of electronic test principles and practices gained from hands on experience
" Familiar with the use of common range of electronics test & measurement equipment
" Experience of SMT manufacturing, able to identify different component types, values and correct orientation
" Able to read and interpret technical data including circuit diagrams (drawings and technical publications)
" Able to complete test documentation
" Able to carry out production work
" Able to document fault history logs for use by other technicians to assist in establishing cause of failure

" Understands the principals of continuous improvement and applies them in the workplace
" Able to trend fault data to establish the primary causes of failure
" Good team player
" Good communication skills (written and verbal)
" Computer literate
" Methodical and analytical approach to work
" High levels of productivity
" Safety orientated

" Good understanding of the need to satisfy customer demands and expectations
" City & Guilds or NVQ level 2 in Engineering or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline plus substantial experience in a similar test role

" Prepared to work additional hours as required to meet business needs
" Flexible in respect of hours of work
" Able to distinguish between colours


Desirable skills and experience:

*Experience within the avionics industry
*Exposure to working within a lean environment
*Familiar with the use of Excel and Word packages
*Educated to BTEC (or equivalent) level in an appropriate electronics discipline
*Electronics apprenticeship
*Current driving licence
