Extremely well respected in the Defence industry our client is a world-leading missile and missile systems manufacturer with operations in France, Germany, Italy and Britain, over 10,000 employees and an annual turnover of over €3 bn.
Formed following a merger of the 3 main missile producers in Europe our client has benefited the combined experience gained from fifty years of technological and operational success.
Working with nearly 100 armed forces worldwide our client is the only Group capable of designing and producing missiles and missile systems to meet the whole range of current and future operational requirements for the three armed forces (army, navy, air force). Overall, the Group offers a range of 45 products in service and another 15 in development.
Positioned at the heart of the European defence sector as well as establishing cooperative transatlantic links with the principal groups in the US defence industry our client has demonstrated its ability to bring together the best skills across the whole of Europe, and has succeeded in becoming the prime contractor for a series of strategic multi-national programmes.

They are now looking for an Engineer (Electrical Interconnect Design) for their plant in Stevenage

ROLE TITLE: Senior Mechanical Engineer - Electrical Interconnect

ROLE PURPOSE: To assist in the design of electrical interconnects for missile systems. To undertake a full range of engineering activities in line with all relevant processes and other requirements

DIRECTORATE: Operations (Mechanical Engineering)

REPORTS TO: Mechanical Group Leader

ACCOUNTABILITIES
" Definition of bespoke cable designs for power, signal & data transmission.
" Participate fully in developing cable routing solutions including creation of CAD (Pro/Cable) cable route models.
" Interpretation of Sub-System Specifications and generation of 2D electrical schematics & cable design definitions on CAD.
" Develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards. Participate in appraisals to ensure all standards are maintained.
" Carry out investigations into a full range of problems, issues or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
" Define testing approaches and specify tests in assigned/specialist area(s) and evaluate and make recommendations based on results, including making suggestions to improve test/diagnosis processes.
" Support/liaise with manufacturing, resolving manufacturing problems & defects.
" Support to functional & environmental trials.
" Support in the developing, maintaining and modifying of engineering processes and procedures in assigned areas in response to technical developments and operational need.
" Liaise with suppliers/ purchasing to resolve any technical queries that may arise.
" Planning own day-to-day activities.

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Contribution to some/all of the following activites:
Test specifications

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
" Significant practical experience and/or suitable vocational qualification
" Experience in specification, design & manufacture of electrical cable systems
" Knowledge of the following: harness, manufacturing processes, EMC grounding, shielding & gasketing, connectors to BS & military specifications, specification & design of fibre optic harnesses, safety systems architecture, design of cables for data bus systems, aircraft store interconnection, general electronics packaging & enclosure design
" Understands quality requirements and processes
" Understands objectives and key result areas for own unit and, broadly, how it fits with other units
" Good understanding of engineering best practice
" Good written and verbal communication skills,
plus presentation skills
" Is skilled in the use of appropriate systems
" Able to plan and control own work
" Understanding of project management processes
" Understands company standards and
productivity measures
" Good analytical and problem solving skills
