Location Plant / Office

Leader of the stress analysis area for the Engineering Centre. Responsible for integrity of analysis, training of engineers, developing engineers, supporting the plant, and final sign-off of all stress-related activities. Capable of providing insight into the technical assessment of potential partners and their stress activities

Key Accountabilities
• Ensure all stress analysis work is of appropriate quality and hence take responsibility for Structural Integrity of products designed. Be fully accountable for the technical content and quality of work undertaken by all stress engineers working on Engineering Centre products.
• Budget responsibility for all business in the Stress Analysis area
• Build and manage a qualified / certified production organization
• Run key businesses and allocate resources to be commercially viable in accordance with KPI’s
• Achieve standardized processes and practices across the operations group; lean practices, process re-engineering.

Key Activities
• Ensure that the specific design work from the project is delivered to programme such that there are no subsequent delays to the program
• A consistent structural design and certification/qualification approach is taken across all products.
• Stress signing of metal and composite related concessions, approval of technical documents and data for manufacture, technique sheets etc.
• Contribution to stress training courses in terms of approval of course material and attendance at wrap up sessions.
• Definition and approval of certification plans.
• Ensuring design solutions are structurally optimized.
• Representing the stress function at design reviews and approving design solutions for structural integrity.
• Ensure core engineering methods, tools, and allowable, policies etc. are deployed and adhered to
• Actively participate in assessment of business development opportunities
• Lead, develop and evaluate a team of senior managers with appropriate skills to ensure the stress organization achieves it business objectives and complies with all relevant regulations and laws
• Assist in training new recruits to the company and/or function
• Engage in ongoing personal/self development to stay current with industry best practices

Knowledge
Extensive understanding of stress analysis for Aerospace design work
Thorough understanding of aerospace engineering discipline

Education
The expectation is that the candidate will be qualified to a minimum of degree level and be a chartered engineer. Preferable to have a higher degree qualification and a post graduate level education in business or management.
Higher degree in either aeronautical engineering, manufacturing engineering, production engineering, industrial engineering, production planning, or equivalent

Certifications
Capable of being a regulatory post holder (an accountable person) in stress/analysis acceptable to airworthiness authorities.

Experience
Proven experience including;
• Involved in major aircraft projects taking stress approval and certification responsibilities through the certification process to successful certification.
• Proven experience in composite analysis
• Experience at all stages of the design process from concept through to in-service support.
• Proven working experience as an aircraft stress engineer, with minimum 4 years as team leader, involved in the static and fatigue analysis of composite and metallic structures using a broad range of standard hand and computer methods.
• The ability to rapidly and confidently assess difficult, multi facetted structural problems under pressure and to provide the appropriate direction and guidance to team members.
• The ability to develop and coach less experienced stress engineers, and to set stretching, but realistic targets to section leaders.
• The ability to lead a large team of Stress Engineers.
• The ability to ensure that solutions are technically integrated across the whole project.
• Team Leaders with high regard for both internal and external; customers, whilst maintaining Aircraft integrity as the over-riding principle.
• Experience in working in an international environment.
• Managerial and leadership are necessary skills

Technical Skills
• A thorough understanding of aircraft production methods and processes, especially if gained through involvement in MRB or similar manufacturing support activities
• Design and stress analysis of metallic airframe structure
• Extensive knowledge of composite stressing methods
