ILS Manager - Stevenage UK
Extremely well respected in the Defence industry our client is a world-leading missile and missile systems manufacturer.

ROLE PURPOSE:
To act as primary interface to IPT ILS/Supportability lead and lead a team of logistics engineering specialists in the specifying, development and delivery of a Support Solution for a given company Weapon System.

Reports to: Head of Support Solutions UK /Project lead
RESPONSIBILITIES:
" Responsible for developing the Project ILS/Supportability Strategy during bid phase and cascading through the Supply Chain. Work jointly with Customer in developing this strategy.
" Ensure that company Support Strategy and Support Solution are compatible with these assessment criteria.
" Accountable for the implementation of the Customer's contractual ILS/Supportability requirements, through all phases of the project life cycle.
" Be accountable for all ILS/Supportability contract deliverables. These will typically include, Whole Life Costing Reports, Logistic Analysis Reports, FMECA & RCM(reliability centred maintenance) studies, Customer training, User Technical Documentation, and maintenance equipment.
" Lead, develop and motivate staff to ensure they are aware & capable of delivering their accountabilities. (Circa 5-10off staff).

" Accountable for the development, delivery and subsequent maintenance of the In-Service Support Plan (ISP) and all sub-element plans.
" Development and maintenance for the ILS/Supportability Interface, between Company and the customer. Facilitating effective management of projects to meet customer requirements and play a leading role in the swift and effective resolution of major issues
" Be responsible for (by attendance at MoD Programme, Design and ILS/Supportability Reviews) ensuring that all Support drivers are fully understood, considered and that these drivers are traded as part of wider System sensitivity studies.
" Chair Company Project ILS/Supportability Reviews, managing, conducting and closing out these Reviews in a timely manner and consistent with milestone deliveries.
" Act as primary technical & Management ILS interface for Company with subcontractors. Assess & judge technical content of Supplier ILS activities and be the authority for Company ILS Acceptance i.a.w. with contracts placed on Company Suppliers.
" Provide mentoring/coaching expertise to other less experienced members of the CSS logs eng skill group. (eg Chair independent reviews of other ILS deliverables)
" Work with Head of Support Solutions Design and pilot Functional Improvement initiatives on ILS/Supportability packages of work. Minimum of 1 initiative piloted/year.
" Identify opportunities on an annual basis to reduce ILS/Supportability costs by 10% every year.
" Delivery of project milestones to time/cost/quality deadlines
" Production of compliance statements against project Support requirements identifying areas of non-compliance in defined bid timescale.
" Production of risk non-compliance aversion strategies/approaches in defined bid timescales
" Production and maintenance of Project Whole Life Cost (WLC) model. Delivery to Customer as demanded by contract.
" Successful application of team management and leadership. To include monthly sitrep meetings with all 1st reports.
" Carry out one-to-one staff assessments. Identify staff training needs and development needs.
" No Customer complaints regarding delivery of ILS/Supportability elements of contract.
" Reduce ILS/Supportability costs by 10% every year.
" Experience in engineering leadership/management
" Degree qualified or relevant experience, with a Systems Engineering background
" Able to provide managerial leadership to others
" Well developed planning and organisational skills
" Strategic planning capability
" Highly developed communication skills.
" Track record of managing a number of varied projects successfully.
" Negotiating and influencing skills
" Able to delegate effectively.
" Strong Customer focus both internally & externally
ECONOMICS
" Project budget responsibility will be circa £3M annually for a "D&M" contract over a nominal 5 year period.
" Project budget responsibility for "C&A" contract will be circa £0.5-1M annually depending on size of project.
" People management - circa 5-10 staff depending on size, complexity of task
PROBLEM SOLVING CHALLENGES
" Likely to be working in a multi-national environment (either within Company and/or the Customer is likely to be multi-national)
" Maintaining Contract value with the lowest ILS cost to Company.
" Demonstrating courage and conviction when piloting new ILS related initiatives.
" Demonstrating Customer relationship skills in managing the Customer interface and ensuring our relationship is always viewed positively.
" Application of functional improvement initiatives to bid/project activities. Assess degree of effectiveness and share learning with wider ILS community.
Due to the nature of this position it is a legal requirement that all candidates must be able to pass Security Clearance. This means you must have been in the UK for the last 5 years and hold a British passport.
