Inspector of Air Accidents (Engineering)
Starting salary £65,500 – Based in Farnborough, Hampshire

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) requires two inspectors to strengthen its dedicated team of accident investigators.

You will be responsible for the engineering aspects of an investigation from the examination of wreckage to the investigation of the engineering human factors. Your brief is broad and encompasses the interviewing of technical personnel, reviewing design and maintenance criteria, detailed report writing, drafting safety recommendations and giving expert evidence in court. The role often involves work in physically demanding environmental conditions, both on land and occasionally at sea, for which you will be required to undertake Health and Safety training.

You will hold a degree in engineering and/or be a Chartered Engineer and have extensive and varied professional aviation engineering experience. Your technical and analytical capabilities will be highly developed. You will need to be a proven team player, with excellent oral and written communication skills. You must show initiative, self motivation, the capacity to remain objective and diplomatic and demonstrate sound judgement under pressure. You will also have the personal qualities required to deal sensitively with those directly affected by an accident.

A valid full UK driving licence is required. This position is open to UK nationals only.
