Job Description:

The Defense Targeting Toolset (DTT) programme, is a major element in the companies strategic development into the C2 business area. Our client have recently successfully completed the AP phase and are now moving into the Development and Manufacturing (D&M) Phase. To support this, our company is expanding its team based in Harlow.

DTT is a tiered, distributed application, primarily built around the J2EE architecture. It provides a suite of SW tools to support Battlespace Management for the Artillery Systems IPT within the MoD. It will comprise COTS and bespoke tools anticipated to be several hundred thousand lines of Java running over a Windows Operating System with an Information Tier based on an Oracle Database.

The software engineering roles will involve working with the customer to understand, prototype and develop solutions to key requirements. Following on from this, formalisation of the product into an operational baseline will be required.

The Software Engineer will:

" Analyse and Specify Software Requirements.
" Employ best practice object oriented skills to achieve design compliance with software architecture
" Design, Code and Unit test each software element developed.
" Support the Integration, Test and Sell-Off of the product.
" Establish strong relationships with the programme customer, key stakeholders, subcontractors, and company US counterparts.
" Support formal project meetings and working groups - candidates must be comfortable with collaborative working to develop an overall solution.
" Ensure that all engineering activities undertaken under their control are conducted to a common standard that reflects best practice, and are in accordance with company Policy.
" Use company 6 Sigma proactively to foster a culture of continuous process improvement.
" Maintain the technical content of documentation and standards of engineering work being performed on the programme within their technical control.

Required Skills:

" Degree in Scientific or Engineering discipline.
" Experience of software development tasks on at least one major programme including extensive knowledge and experience of full lifecycle coverage.
" Experience in software design and solution implementation.
" Solid JAVA experience with experience in J2EE and/or Oracle Database
" Experience of the following is also desirable : Eclipse IDE, Sybase, JBOSS, JMS, RMI, Hibernate, EJBs, Swing, Clear Case/Quest, JUnit, Checkstyle and Clover.
" Proficient in the use of UML to describe design and model technical solutions
" Experience in Integration and Test of Large Software Intensive Programmes
