Principal Power Design Engineer - Glenrothes

As a company they are committed to driving strategic growth, establishing an inclusive culture, and developing an environment for learning and due to project workload are increasing their support to a number of Power System designs for military programmes, to this they require a power system designer.
Essential
oHonours in Electronic engineering (or related discipline)
oIn-depth experience in a Power Conversion product design environment
oProven track record in power systems development
Desirable
oKnowledge of designing power conversion products and systems in Defense product environments
oKnowledge of design life cycles of products outside the power domain.
Nature and Scope
Responsible for technical supervision of power conversion system architectures and product design within the company. This will include the engineering supervision of multiple product design teams and the provision of technical guidance to those teams to ensure robust and timely delivery of development programmes. Also to contribute as part of the Engineering leadership team to strategic power product development and general engineering supervision activities. This role is based in Glenrothes.
Responsibilities
oTo provide power architectures and conversion design experience and guidance to product developments
oTo prepare proposals to support companies bids for power products.
oTo provide technical guidance and direction to design teams as necessary.
oTo contribute to the strategic development of Power Products within the company.
oTo provide support to Engineering management in all aspects of power conversion design
oTo use and develop tools and techniques to aid the process of design
oTo develop product specifications in conjunction with customers
oTo utilise Companies Six sigma process improvement principles
oTo execute development activities in accordance with companies IPDS design procedures
oTo support Power Conversion technology related R&D activities
Competencies
Technical
oLarge system (<50kW) power architecture conceptual definition from source to point of use
oHierarchical development of power elements, apportioning of system budgets and related requirements definition
oModeling and simulation of power systems - Matlab/Simulink, Mathcad
oApplication of mathematical modeling, computer based analysis to steady state and transient complex power algorithms
oHarmonic current and power factor definition and AC system control techniques
oDFSS, DFM, DTC techniques
oEMI techniques as applied to power systems and products
oEarthing and bonding control and definition
oPower conversion design and development, AC - DC, DC - DC high frequency switch mode techniques
oStrong understanding of product lifecycles
Soft Skills
oSkilled Communicator in oral and written formats
oAbility to lead technical design teams
oAbility to review other engineers designs
Personal Characteristics
Creative, Self starter, Enthusiastic, Attention to detail, highly motivated
Other Relevant Experience
Understanding of development life cycles outside the power product environment.
