Principle Stress Engineer (Mechanical Analysis) - Hertfordshire
Please note all candidates will need to be able to obtain Security Clearance to be considered for this vacancy. Therefore you will need to have been a permanent UK resident for the last 5 years and hold a British passport to be eligible for this role.
Extremely well respected in the Defence industry our client is a world-leading missile and missile systems manufacturer with operations in France, Germany, Italy and Britain, over 10,000 employees and an annual turnover of over €3 bn.
Working with nearly 100 armed forces worldwide our client is the only Group capable of designing and producing missiles and missile systems to meet the whole range of current and future operational requirements for the three armed forces (army, navy, air force). Overall, the Group offers a range of 45 products in service and another 15 in development.
Positioned at the heart of the European defence sector as well as establishing cooperative transatlantic links with the principal groups in the US defence industry our client has demonstrated its ability to bring together the best skills across the whole of Europe, and has succeeded in becoming the prime contractor for a series of strategic multi-national programmes.
They now have a requirement for a Principle Stress Engineer (Mechanical Analysis) in Hertfordshire.
Salary circa £40k
ROLE PURPOSE:Structural Analysis for Major Projects
REPORTS TO: Group Leader Mechanical Analysis UK
ACCOUNTABILITIES
oCarry out full range of structural analyses and investigations, including evaluation, selection of technical options, and prepare supporting reports.
oPrepare various technical documents in support of structural analysis activities.
oCarry out structural analysis investigations into a full range of problems using classical calculations and analytical tools.
oProduce structural testing requirements with supporting calculations.
oTake a lead role for assigned structural analysis activities
oPlan, control and deliver assigned project work ensuring requirements are delivered to plan.
oProduce estimates and identify risks associated with structural analysis.
oParticipate in collaborative ventures within the same skill areas, with colleagues in France.
oAct as the main point of contact with customers (internal and external), suppliers and collaborators for assigned structural analysis matters.
oProvide effective support to customers for assigned structural analysis, delivering solutions to meet the customer's needs and requirements plus the programme plan.
oSupport the preparation of bids/statements of work for structural analysis tasks ensuring high quality of submissions.
oKeep up to date and develop relevant technical skills, knowledge and capabilities. Seek and share best practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices.
oManage assigned budgets and lead, develop and motivate assigned staff to ensure they are aware of and capable of delivering their accountabilities
oMake engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
o- Provide mentoring/coaching to help and direct less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development
PROBLEM SOLVING CHALLENGES
The individual must be able to work from first principles to define mechanical analysis problems and select the most appropriate and cost-effective method of solving them. This involves working closely with other areas including design (in-house and/or sub-contract design authorities). As technical problems are often associated with structural integrity, safety and legal obligations are paramount.
Good communication skills are also required to deal with a potentially complex organisation and to justify decisions and risks to a project customer. To ensure consistency and technical excellence work will be reviewed and approved by the Project Chief Structural Engineer.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
oDegree qualified or equivalent, plus substantial relevant experience.
oSound fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering, stress and vibration analysis
oDemonstrated capability for interfacing with customers.
oNegotiating and influencing skills.
oExcellent problem solving skills.
oHighly developed communication skills: able to communicate verbally and in writing at Project level.
oExperience in engineering in defence or related industry.
oWell-developed planning and organisation skills.
oAble to provide technical leadership to others.
oProven record in conducting successful technical investigations and research.
oAble to develop links with other technical specialists, including outside OUR CLIENT'S, and to network effectively on an international basis.
oKnowledge and experience of Def. Stan. 07-85
oExperienced in classical and Finite Element Structural Analysis and preferably has used the following tools, NASTRAN, PATRAN, MathCAD, Pro/Engineer
