This position is part of the on-site C-17 Globemaster Sustainment Partnership maintenance team supporting the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) aircraft based at Papa AB, Hungary. Applicant will participate in organizational level maintenance activities (e.g. flight line tasks including aircraft servicing, inspections, fault diagnosis and component replacement) associated with day-to-day operations of C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to meet SAC mission requirements. Additionally participation in intermediate level maintenance activities (e.g. back-shop tasks including component repair, test set operation, battery charging, and scheduled periodic inspections) will be required. Applicant will participate in the removal and replacement, or upgrade of C-17 air vehicle components to correct failures or implement changes; support troubleshooting and repair of C-17 air vehicle and its components; perform as a team member in tasks associated with the safe handling of a C-17 air vehicle (e.g. jacking, towing, system operations), and perform work under appropriate direction. Applicant will be required to interact with both the customer and management to provide information on C-17 air vehicle operational status and fault resolution. Applicant will have the ability to participate in the repair and troubleshooting of complex C-17 avionics, air vehicle electronic control systems, air vehicle cargo handling, fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic, and propulsion control systems. Experience in operating and repairing integrated avionics, air vehicle electrical and
mechanical control systems, aircraft engines and Auxiliary Power units, alternate mission equipment, MIL-STD-1553B multiplex data bus and ARINC 429 serial data bus systems is essential. Applicant will be familiar with both USAF and
C-17 Technical Orders, G081 maintenance data base, and will be required to interpret and work to system schematic and wiring diagrams to isolate faults and repair faulty components. Ideally applicants will have prior training or competency on C-17 aircraft. An FAA Airframe & Power-plant Certification or a Federal Communication Commission (FCC) license is desirable.

Typical Education/Experience

 

High school diploma or GED and typically 4 or more years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Job related information

 

The purpose of this position is to provide an Avionics Mechanic for C-17 aircraft. This position will require relocation to Hungary, first or second shift work may be required, and periods of on-call support and will be cross utilized to perform servicing and team member activities. Travel will be required to support remote maintenance activities and to recover inoperative forward deployed aircraft. Successful completion of C-17 maintenance training is a job requirement. Applicant must have or be able to get a secret security clearance. Assembles, disassembles and/or modifies systems by changing, removing, replacing or upgrading aerospace vehicle components to correct failures or implement changes. Supports the configuration of aerospace vehicles and bench test equipment as required. Ability to operate shop equipment in the inspection, repair, and recharging aircraft batteries a plus. Troubleshoots complex avionics, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical control systems to isolate electrical or mechanical faults and repair faulty components. Performs validation/verification testing of systems and components. Documents procedures and established processes to ensure contractual and regulatory compliance (e.g., repairs, test results, applicable modifications and inspection results). May provide training to less qualified mechanics. Works under general direction.
