Programmes Controller - Hampshire UK
Headquartered in the United Kingdom, our client is an international group employing over 8,000 people with sales of over £600 million, specialising in aerospace equipment, high performance sensors, defence training and combat systems.
Located in Hampshire on the south coast of England they design and manufacture:

"Flight deck avionics: - Sensors and cockpit display systems for most of the world´s leading aircraft manufacturers of civil and military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.
"Data acquisition systems: - Flight data recorders, health and usage monitoring systems and engine monitoring units for civil and military aircraft, fixed or rotary wing.
"Instruments and life support: - Electro-mechanical instruments and military aircrew oxygen systems - design, manufacture and support benefiting from over 40 years´ experience.
Due to the growth of their business they currently require a Programmes Controller to join their busy team in Hampshire.
Overall Purpose/Objectives of Role:
To provide management information, primarily but not exclusively financial, to the Programme Management and departmental management teams to assist them in monitoring and controlling their projects and in preparing sales and costs forecasts.
To maintain, working with Programme Managers, cost and work breakdown structures that support the identification and control of cost drivers.
To assist the preparation of data in support of the budgeting and forecasting process.
Key duties:
1.To maintain and administer financial data collection and reporting systems for engineering projects covering labour and material spend, providing analysis and commentary of variances from baseline plan established at agreement of the business case from high level to task level as required.
2.To develop improvements to existing data collection and analysis tools as required.
3.Compile, maintain and review estimates to completion using Work Breakdown structures that will be maintained throughout the life of the project.
4.Assist in validating estimating assumptions, particularly those relating to material costs and update the financial model to reflect the latest cost to complete and NPV estimates.
5.Work with the programme managers to identify opportunities to improve the reporting of existing programmes, leading to improvements in margins and profitability of the business going forward.
6.Work with the central finance team to ensure product cost estimates are accurate including detailed quotations from procurement and the timing of external purchases
7.Working with Programme Managers and Integrated Project Team Leaders to administer the authorisation of detailed tasks by named engineers and to provide reports identifying deviations from plan
8.To assist in the preparation of budget data, associated commentaries and presentations for the Programmes and Engineering department.
9.To assist in the preparation of estimates for new business opportunities
10.To assist in consolidating manpower and other forecasts within the department.
To organise and co-ordinate programme review meetings including the monthly senior management review ensuring actions recorded & followed through.
The successful candidate will also possess the following:
"Extensive experience of working in a project environment.
"Experience of providing analysis and commentary on the financial health of programmes.
"Experience of managing timely reviews and analysis for input into quarterly and annual forecasting process
"Experience of working closely with cost accountants to ensure accurate product cost estimates are included in the financial model and providing commentary on any variances form the original tender vet approval
"Ability to gain co-operation of individuals who may be more senior or with differing reporting lines
"Ability to work on a disparate range of activities and to demonstrate effective time management skills
"Able to demonstrate a range of analytical skills with the ability to identify, clarify and effectively communicate issues prioritising those that are material enough to require intervention
"Ability to anticipate and resolve problems proactively by comparing and contrasting the engineering activity plan against the budget and flag any potential deviations.
"Ability to grasp information quickly and accurately.

Qualifications:

An accountancy qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, ACA or currently working towards and proven experience in an engineering environment with a development projects/programme focus having personal responsibility for compiling financial performance reports and analyses.
