Senior Engineer - Motion Controls - Northern Ireland
Our client is a specialist air movement and motion control design/manufacturing business that since the 1940's has supplied high tech products to the aerospace and defence industries.
For more than sixty years the company has been dedicated to the design and production of the highest quality, most efficient solutions to engineering needs, using the best materials and skills in the industry.
They provide cutting-edge design, using the latest in fluid dynamics, 3D solid modelling and finite element analysis software packages. In addition, their local environmental testing laboratories provide evaluations of their products and can test and certify to stringent industry standards.
With their roots in the USA the company is now in the process of setting up an engineering facility in Northern Ireland with an initial focus on repair and overhaul which will then progress to a full manufacturing facility.
As such the business needs to take on some key senior members of the engineering team to effectively build the operation around and they are currently looking for a Senior Engineer in their Motion Controls Department.
Opportunity Overview
" The Senior Engineer will act as team leader over a designer and draftsperson on a project by project basis.
" Must be technically competent to design and package circuits and to conduct software, hardware and control loop tests and to write reports and release designs for production.
" This position reports directly to the Chief of Development Engineering.
Responsibilities:
" Submit annual input for technical product development strategy.
" Assist sales in writing customer project proposals with clear and relevant technical writing.
" Complete design, analysis, and simulation of analog and digital circuits with control loop, FMEA, thermal, EMI/EMC, and performance analysis including firmware for digital designs for brush and brushless, sensor and sensorless, a/c and d/c motors for controlling motion and motor parameters.
" Package designs and work with drafting team to release schematics and drawings.
" Complete prototype and qualification testing of new designs.
" Specify and test controller components and control systems supplied by third parties.
" Support factory and customer technical interchanges.
Required Education/Experience:
" BSEE / BSc or equivalent in analogue and digital circuit design, PC board layout and DFM.
" Power supply design knowledge a plus.
" Proven very in depth experience in electrical design, analysis and test of high reliability precision motor and motion control systems.
" proven experience in small design team leadership.
" Must have detailed technical design, analysis and test level knowledge in control loops.
" Superior technical writing skills
" Knowledge of AC induction motors, BLDC and brush motors.
" Positive and savvy customer interpersonal skills and presence.
