Senior Safety Analyst

The Senior Safety Analyst (SSA) supports the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) Automatic Dependent Surveillance –
Broadcast (ADS-B) program. The SSA conducts risk assessments
and end-to-end safety analyses of ADS-B systems. The SSA
reviews, evaluates and communicates ADS-B systems and
applications compliance with established reliability and safety
practice, process and regulation. The SSA applies experience in
aviation / surveillance systems and operational safety analysis
to a variety of ADS-B and government / industry work groups.
This position supports the Flight Standards and Technologies
division providing leadership on safety, capacity, and
efficiency improvements in the U. S. National Airspace System
(NAS) based on advanced technology and innovative operational
concepts.

Key responsibilities of the SSA are to provide technical
support as follows:

Support safety hazard analyses and risk
assessments of the system and operational applications.

Conduct end-to-end system safety analysis.

Develop end-to-end system safety requirements.

Determine and effectively communicate validation,
verification and compliance with reliability and system
safety requirements.

Monitor the status of hazards tracking and risk
resolution and refinement of the hazard tracking system.

Establishes system technical standards and safety
processes.

Provides safety risk management support for SBS
program functional areas.

Support preparation of status reports and issue
papers on program office safety risk management
activities and issue resolutions.

Develop testing, modeling, and simulations
criteria.

Participates in and supports development of work
products of weekly System Engineering Work Group.

Participates in and supports development of work
products of weekly Safety Risk Management Work Group.

Participates in and supports development of work
products of system engineering design reviews.

Education / Experience

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in a technical discipline or
equivalent experience may replace the Bachelor’s degree
requirement. The successful candidate will demonstrate
specific experience analyzing, evaluating and communicating the
safety analysis of flight operations and procedures in the US
NAS. The candidate must demonstrate substantial experience
working with government / industry groups implementing advanced
surveillance technology and innovative operational concepts in
the US NAS.
