Our client is a specialist Group that designs, manufactures and supports electronic and electromechanical systems, subsystems and products for defence, security and aerospace applications across the world, focusing on high integrity sensing, control, communication and display systems with an emphasis on integrated IT solutions. The Group employs over 3,000 people in the UK and North America.

The role

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Systems Engineer to work in their Buckinghamshire location.

The role of Senior System Engineer will involve investigating/reviewing various projects to determine thoroughness of requirements capture, appropriateness of planned design reviews, approach to verification and validation, adequacy of associated documentation and to make recommendations for improvement. The role will also involve taking responsibility for reviewing systems aspects of a wide variety of projects.

Key duties and responsibilities are as follows;

To promote the use of systems engineering from the earliest stages of a bid and throughout projects, and promote systems engineering principles such that project activities are pro-actively de-risked.
Analysis of system/sub-system designs for a range of attributes
Review of documentation of system design and analysis of requirements traceability throughout the design.
Assessing and minimising project risks by active consideration of Safety, EMC, RoHS, WEEE and other legislative requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
To review and propose changes to the procedures and processes in use by the company in order to improve the quality of the products and services and to reduce costs.
Participate in procedure reviews as required.
Provide technical consultancy to projects in any specialist skill/knowledge areas that the individual has gained from previous experience

The role will also involve maintaining appropriate records relating to project and bid activities.

Although responsibility for other staff members is unlikely in the initial stages, the candidate will need to provide guidance to staff for whom they do not have supervisory responsibility.

Essential requirements for this role are as follows;

Education:

Minimum Upper second class degree or equivalent in Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related discipline

Experience in the following areas:

Previous experience working in a safety critical environment

System design

Assessing designs against requirements.

Capture and analysis of functional and non-functional requirements

The candidate will also be familiar with the whole system/product lifecycle
