Senior Systems Safety Engineer - Hampshire UK
Headquartered in the United Kingdom, our client is an international group employing over 8,000 people with sales of over £600 million, specialising in aerospace equipment, high performance sensors, defence training and combat systems.
Located in Hampshire on the south coast of England they design and manufacture:
" Flight deck avionics: - Sensors and cockpit display systems for most of the world´s leading aircraft manufacturers of civil and military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.
" Data acquisition systems: - Flight data recorders, health and usage monitoring systems and engine monitoring units for civil and military aircraft, fixed or rotary wing.
" Instruments and life support: - Electro-mechanical instruments and military aircrew oxygen systems - design, manufacture and support benefiting from over 40 years´ experience.
Due to the growth of their business they currently require a Senior Systems Safety Engineer.
Overall Purpose/Objectives of Role
" Develop and implement structured engineering solutions to meet programme requirements across the whole development lifecycle in accordance with customer requirements, legislation, human factors and business needs.
" Be responsible for the control of own work and that of any allocated resource to meet agreed technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements.
Key duties:
" Develop innovative engineering solutions to meet the requirements of the project to agreed schedule, quality and cost requirements across the whole development lifecycle within the context of the MAv lifecycle management process
" Work with customers, other engineering disciplines and other internal departments across the whole development process and respond to their requests in a timely and professional manner.
" Compile plans, estimates, task lists and risk management plans with estimated resource requirements (people and equipment) in support of programme objectives, project estimates and bids.
" Perform, track and control internal project activities and external sub-contract organisations, whilst maintaining focus on achieving goals with a positive can-do attitude.
" Capture, define and manage requirements through a disciplined and rigorous approach to requirements management and ask challenging questions about the requirements and architecture of the system at each level of the hierarchy.
" Ensure systems architectures are developed considering alternative concepts and trade analysis in order to determine preferred solution.
" Construct and implement embedded solutions including detailed design, leading technical reviews, and performance optimisation.
" Define strategies in order to comprehensively review and exercise designs to detect defects and evaluate features in both development and manufacture.
" Generate, perform, approve and validate results of verification plans, test plans, analysis, test case design and other specific kinds of tests including flight tests, system tests, development tests, unit tests, component tests, integration tests, regression tests, stress tests, acceptance tests and qualification tests as appropriate.
" Provide confidence that work products conform to all aspects of technical and quality requirements through robust configuration control, review and change management processes.
" Understand and implement the requirements for certification of safety critical products in partnership with the appropriate development assurance level requirements and processes.
" Assist the Functional Engineering Manager and IP Team Lead in the formulation of engineering strategy and continual process improvement, in support of the company business and strategic objectives.
" Provide effective technical support, including customer liaison, to all departments at both company and customers' premises as required.
" Provide technical leadership in area of expertise.
" Where appropriate to provide leadership and development of multi-disciplinary teams to meet the requirements of the business and its customers.
" Undertake any other engineering related tasks commensurate with this post as required by the IP Team Lead.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
" Extensive knowledge of product safety and reliability/maintainability/testability management, modelling techniques, control, analysis and validation (including Failure Modes Effects, Criticality Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, performing reliability prediction and failure analysis).
" Ability to define the strategy and approach to safety/reliability/maintainability analysis and experience of guiding subsequent design synthesis.
" Understanding of the architecture of product design including experience of performing design trade-off analysis in order to meet safety/reliability/maintainability/availability requirements and proposing subsequent design approaches in order to meet requirements.
" Knowledge of current civil, military and defence standards such as MIL-HDBK-217, MIL-STD-1629, Def Stan 00-56, AC25.1309, ARP4754/4761, RTCA/DO-254 and DO-178B.
" Ability to conduct system safety assessments consisting of Functional Hazard Assessment, Preliminary System Safety Assessment, and System Safety Assessment.
" Detailed knowledge of maintainability and testability analysis including extensive experience of performing predictions, detection and isolation analysis and ensuring equipments are designed that meet maintainability and testability requirements
" Disciplined and rigorous approach to analysis and ability to understand constraints in accordance with customer requirements, legislation, human factors and business needs. Ask challenging questions about the requirements and architecture of the system at each level of the hierarchy, validating that the system that has been produced as a result and meets the original specifications.
" experience of reliability and maintainability demonstration, reliability growth testing/HALT testing and HASS/ESS testing.
" Proven experience of planning, tracking and controlling safety/ reliability/maintainability project activities.
Qualifications:
" Degree in systems engineering, electronics, or appropriate engineering discipline.
" Experience of working as a senior engineer on systems developments.
" Acknowledged and recognised safety and reliability expert with proven record of achievement.
Ideal candidate must also be Prepared to travel to the USA or Europe not normally more than four times per year and prepared to undertake travel within the UK.
Prepared to work overtime.
