The Boeing Company has initiated a Work Place Services Automation Engineering internship program at the Boeing IDS Long Beach facility. Students enrolled in a college undergraduate engineering program will be invited to apply. As part of the intern experience, each student will be paired with a Boeing Subject Matter Expert (as mentor) who will provide guidance, instruction and familiarization in all aspects of the engineering support required by Boeing's automated manufacturing efforts. The interns' focus at Boeing will be in automated equipment safety, processing, reliability and maintainability improvements. This will include: Complex-systems troubleshooting/configuration analysis and development/integration of new systems designed for the purposes of improving overall and specialized equipment capabilities.
Competencies
JOB SPECIFIC: The successful intern will be a self starter, a good team player, an effective communicator and will possess a superior command of the English language (both orally and in writing). Intern candidate coursework focus (and/or experience) in CNC and Manufacturing Automation systems & applications a major plus. Intern candidates should understand the application of good engineering practices and have some exposure to government and professional regulations and standards. (E.g., NEC, FCC, UL, IEEE, etc.) Experience in the application and use of electronic test equipment and exposure to CADD systems are necessary skills. The candidates must convey a clear understanding of electronic and mechanical systems interfaces. Systems integration experience or highly successful college lab work a plus. Experience in troubleshooting and/or failure analysis as they apply to complex electro/mechanical systems are also pluses. The successful intern candidate will be an effective performer in a fast-paced work environment that requires self discipline, organization, creativity and a positive attitude - traits found in those who successfully and consistently meet project commitments. No Security Clearance Required. Prefer a student with 3+ years of undergraduate studies majoring in EE, EET or CS. Candidates must demonstrate overall GPA of 3.3 or better. Clearly state cum. GPA and graduation month/year shall be stated in resume. If selected for interview, candidates will be notified via email in the October to November, 2009, timeframe. Assignments begin when your school recesses for summer 2010 and generally last 3 months.
