Systems Engineer (multiple roles) - Warminster UK

Role Overview
The Defence Targeting Toolset (DTT) programme is a major element in our clients strategic development into the C2 business area. Our client have recently successfully completed the AP phase and are now moving into the Development and Manufacturing (D&M) Phase. To support this, our client is expanding its team based in Essex.
DTT is a tiered, distributed application, primarily built around the J2EE architecture. It provides a suite of SW tools to support Battle space Management for the Artillery Systems IPT within the MoD. It will comprise COTS and bespoke tools anticipated to be several hundred thousand lines of Java running over a Windows Operating System with an Information Tier based on an Oracle Database.
The systems engineering roles will involve significant customer exposure, through formal project meetings and working groups so candidates must be comfortable with collaborative working to develop an overall solution. Systems engineers will need to work with the customer to elicit, clarify and document requirements which can be used to drive architectural and subsequent lower-level development activities.
The Systems Engineers will be responsible to the Systems Design Authority and the Systems IPT Lead for the programme.
Systems Engineers will:
" Document the customer/user needs and ensure that the programme understands these needs.
" Ensure that requirements for lower-level products are derived from system level requirements using the architecture and a documented analysis or model.
" Report to and be accountable to the System Design Authority for specific aspects of the technical solution
" Prepare technical specifications and trade studies pertinent to the system development
" Support systems integration and test activities to demonstrate the system for the purposes of validation, verification and qualification
" Establish strong relationships with the programme's customer, key stakeholders, subcontractors and client US counterparts.
" Ensure that all engineering activities undertaken under their control are conducted to a common standard that reflects best practice, and are in accordance with company Policy.
" Use company 6 Sigma proactively to foster a culture of continuous process improvement.
" Maintain the technical content of documentation and standards of engineering work being performed on the programme within their technical control.
Required Skills:
" Degree in Scientific or Engineering discipline
" Significant demonstrable professional experience as a Systems Engineer with experience in application architecture, design and solution implementation
" Clear understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and demonstrable application of relevant methodologies and toolsets
" Experience of customer and user requirements elicitation and subsequent requirements analysis
" Proven and successful track record in design and delivery of systems for major software intensive, system integration programmes
" Able to effectively communicate using verbal and written methods to all users and stakeholders across a spectrum of business and technical understanding
" Experience of Oracle database, Java, DOORS, Enterprise Architect
" Proficiency in MoDAF (or DoDAF) desirable
" Knowledge and application of:
" UK Defence Industry
" Command and Control Systems
